A FESTIVAL FOR ALL CHOIRS IN ST MARK’S SQUARE

The controversy in Venice has not died down, as can easily be seen by reading the local press on ‘street art’ and the possibility of being able to freely perform in some public parts of the city with a high cultural value such as St Mark’s Square and other smaller squares. After what happened to the young Prague choir, which we spoke about in a previous news item, and which opened up a debate on council regulations governing street artists, today’s news is that the deputy mayor of Venice, Sandro Simionato, intends reviewing the relevant regulations. Furthermore, Mr Simionato has proposed organising a festival in St Mark’s Square for choirs of any kind, obviously compatible with the special nature of the place, and has already begun work on this. The Venice city council is thus aiming to organise a parade of choirs in St Mark’s Square to show that the city remains open, even its most symbolic places, to a certain kind of art and music.
