‘SISSI IN VENICE’: AN EVOCATIVE ITINERARY FOR THE 2013 VENICE CARNIVAL

The Correr Museum offers an evocative itinerary in the St Mark’s area for guests of the 2013 Venice Carnival to discover the places decorated in honour of Princess ‘Sissi’s’ visit to Venice. This itinerary through the imperial rooms of the Royal Palace, inaugurated in summer 2012, saw the restoration of nine rooms, those of Empress Elisabeth (‘Sissi’), thanks to a contribution from the Comité Français pour la Sauvegarde de Venise in association with the Ministry of Culture and the Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia. These fascinating rooms were decorated in 1836-38 during the Habsburg period for the imminent arrival of Emperor Ferdinand I, who was crowned King of Lombardy-Veneto in 1838 in Milan, and, subsequently, for the arrival in 1854-56 of the sovereigns Franz Josef and Elisabeth ‘Sissi’. The Empress was to stay in these rooms for seven months. Informationm for visits:
