AFTER MUCH CONTROVERSY, THE ‘SHED’ IS MOVED
After much uproar, collections of signatures, numerous articles in the local and national press and comments from the minister of culture Massimo Bray, the much contested ‘shed’ that appeared at the base of St Mark’s bell tower will be moved. It will remain in the St Mark’s area, but be moved to the porticoes of the Doge’s Palace. It will also be altered: reduced in size by 70%, it will only sell tickets to exhibitions and other cultural events until 18 August, when it will be definitively removed. Satisfaction has been expressed by the superintendent Renata Codello and the mayor Giorgio Orsoni who, according to the local press, also intends reviewing the overall layout of the square, including discussion of the itinerant vendors’ stalls.
