EIGHTY KILOS OF BREAD THROWN ONTO THE GROUND IN ST MARK’S SQUARE: PROTEST OR ARTISTIC PERFORMANCE?
Eighty kilos of bread were thrown onto the ground in St Mark’s Square by unknown people. They were partly photographed with a mobile phone issued to the San Marco Guardians, who have been patrolling the Square and working with the public authorities since May. The photos have been handed over to the local police. At lunch time two people distributed 80 kilos of bread in heaps and a crescent shape between St Mark’s bell tower and the Caffè Aurora, and it is not known whether this was an artistic performance or a protest. It must be noted that in recent days the local police have intensified their actions against unlicensed salesmen and sellers of corn in the St Mark’s area, as often requested by the Associazione Piazza San Marco. There are numerous cameras in the Square, so the police hope to quickly track down those responsible for this ambiguous action.
