EXPO 2015 PUTS ASHORE AT THE DOGE’S PALACE IN ST MARK’S SQUARE WITH A NEW EXHIBITION ON WATER AND FOOD
In conjunction with Expo 2015 in Milan, with its important theme of nutrition, the Doge’s Palace will host the exhibition ‘WATER AND FOOD IN VENICE. Stories of the Lagoon and the City’ from 26 September to 14 February 2016, dedicated to Venice and the complex network of sustenance systems the city developed over the centuries to maintain and develop itself. Offering a comprehensive picture of life in the lagoon by means of an innovative, interactive, multimedia presentation and a multidisciplinary approach alongside the traditional use of historic maps, paintings and etchings, the exhibition is being produced by the Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia and the Fondazione di Venezia under the aegis of Unesco’s ‘Venice and its Lagoon’ site office and EXPO 2015, curated by Donatella Calabi with scientific coordination by Gabriella Belli and a scientific committee of some of the most important scholars and experts in this field. It will be divided into five thematic sections intended to emphasise the unique nature of Venice and its citizens’ constant efforts to make it the city we all know today.
