NEW FIRST-AID POST OPENED IN ST MARK’S SQUARE

The new first-aid post in St Mark’s Square, located in rooms made available by the state property administration, was opened this morning. This will be a three month trial offering assistance seven days a week from 8 am to 8 pm and coordinating with the emergency services and Venetian hospitals. In highlighting this first, important action in the St Mark’s area intended mainly for tourists, Giuseppe Dal Ben, general director of the Venice ULSS, pointed out that a similar service will shortly be provided at Piazzale Roma and, in September, a project will be launched to provide a network of defibrillators along the main tourist routes in Venice. This post, already active as noted in a previous news item, was opened in the presence of the President of the Region, Luca Zaia, the President of the Province, Francesca Zaccariotto and the Mayor of Venice Giorgio Orsoni. Don Dino Pistolato, director of pastoral health care in Venice and the Triveneto appointed by the Patriarch, blessed the service in the presence of health officials and voluntary associations. Satisfaction was expressed by the President of the Associazione Piazza San Marco, Alberto Nardi, who, in the name of the association, has always advocated the need for such a complete and functional service in St Mark’s Square and the surrounding area, which is always crowded with thousands of tourists.
