OPEN AIR MASS IN ST MARK’S SQUARE RETURNS AFTER 17 YEARS

The open air Holy Mass in St Mark’s Square returns after 17 years. The patriarch Monsignor Francesco Moraglia will hold an open air mass seating 2500 for worshippers from Venice’s 128 parishes on Sunday 14 October in the afternoon, to mark the start of the Year of Faith. The last time the square hosted a mass was on 3 June 1995 when the diocese was convened by Cardinal Marco Cè. The ceremony will begin with a solemn procession from St Mark’s Basilica to the opposite side of the square. It will certainly be a very evocative occasion for locals and tourists alike.
