Principality of Monaco Trophy: exciting spectacle in St Mark’s Basin.
A great show in Venice on Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 June 2017 with the 5th Classic Yachts in the Lagoon Principality of Monaco Trophy, Banca Generali Special Cup, an event promoted by Anna Licia Balzan, Honorary Consul of the Principality of Monaco in Venice, with the support of Banca Generali in association with the Marina Militare di Venezia. Friday 23 June, in the presence of the prime minister of the Principality of Monaco, S.E.M. Serge Telle, owners and crews will first attend the Baume & Mercier cocktail party offered by the Boutique Rocca 1794 in St Mark’s Square and then the cocktail dînatoire at the Baglioni Hotel Luna. Two regattas will be contested on Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 June. In particular, at 11 am on Sunday the public can watch some exciting sailing in the waters of St Mark’s Basin from the waterfront: a fine and enthralling sight much appreciated also by the tourists. The organisers point out in a note circulated on social networks that the regattas, which will be raced applying the C.I.M. (Comité International de la Méditerranée) ratings, will also feature classic boats built between the early 1900s and 1975, including Coch y Bondhu owned by Paolo Zangheri (Marconi ketch 15.2 mt., 1936), Al Na’Ir III owned by Fabio Mangione (Marconi sloop 14.5 mt., 1964), Shaula (1964), Strale owned by Antonio Bandini (Bermuda sloop 13.47 mt., 1967) and Santa Maria owned by Nicopeja (‘cutter pilot’ 13 mt., 1901). The final prize giving will take place on Sunday at the Marina Sant’Elena Photo: Il Portodimare
