ST MARK’S SQUARE IS ALWAYS NEWS

St Mark’s Square, for better or worse, is always at the centre of public attention and especially that of the mass media. On the evening of Monday 22 September Venice was struck by the most violent hail storm for at least 30 years. The city was turned white by big hail stones that certainly gave it an evocative look. The next day the two main Italian newspapers, the Repubblica and the Corriere della Sera, printed numerous photos in their newspapers and on their websites of St Mark’s Square turned white in September by pieces of ice. Once again the Square made news for meteorological reasons, but this time the high tide had nothing to do with it.
