SUCCESS FOR THE FESTA D'EUROPA
Great success in St Mark’s Square for the Festa d’Europa. An international appointment that saw the Square and its surrounding area turned into a prestigious venue for events, exhibitions and meetings dedicated to the European Union and marking two significant historic dates: 5 May 1949, the foundation of the Council of Europe, and 9 May 1950, the birth of the European Union with the ‘Schuman declaration’ on the occasion of the Paris speech. These various events, with the central theme of the ‘Rights and Responsibilities of European Citizenship’, were attended by numerous members of the public and institutional representatives. In particular, Laura Boldrini, Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, took part in the meeting at the Caffè Lavena speaking in the debate on ‘Gender Equality, Against Homophobia’. The other historic cafes in the Square, the Quadri and Florian, hosted meetings on ‘Metropolitan cities, Intercultural Cities’ and ‘The EuroMediterranean Space in the European Perspective’. It was an entirely successful event that brought the Europe ‘of rights and citizenship’ to confer in St Mark’s Square.
