THE 2013 VENICE CARNIVAL OFFICIALLY PRESENTED
The 2013 Venice Carnival entitled ‘Live in Color’ (26 January-12 February) was presented in a press conference at Ca’ Farsetti yesterday. Those present included the carnival’s artistic director Davide Rampello, the president of VM&E Piero Rosa Salva, the councillors for Commerce and Tourism, Carla Rey and Roberto Pancera, the president of AEPE Elio Dazzo and the president of the Coordination of Rowing Clubs Giovanni Giusto. The event was preceded on the 21st by the Conference of Council Services organised by the director general Marco Agostini; the secretary of the Associazione Piazza San Marco, Domenico Lalli, was also present. The latter was there partly to emphasise that the main location and symbol of the events for the 2013 Carnival will once again be St Mark’s Square. Indeed, apart from the Gran Teatro, the Square will be the venue for various shows and musical evenings, and also host the parade of the Twelve Maries (Saturday 2 February) and the Flight of the Angel (3 and 10 February). More traditional festivities will be organised in other parts of the city, too, such as in Cannaregio, along with themed rowing events on the Cannaregio Canal and the Grand Canal. The budget for the event: 1,250,000 euros, of which 550,000 is covered by sponsors. Not actually very much, but that brings us to the well-known controversy mentioned in a previous news item.
