THE GIARDINETTI REALI DI SAN MARCO WILL BE RESTORED AND RETURNED TO THE CITY

An unexpected Christmas present for the St Mark’s area. The Fondazione Venice Gardens, a not-for-profit organisation financed by a group of patrons, has decided to adopt one of the most beautiful but abandoned areas in the city. The Giardinetti Reali di San Marco are to be restored and returned to the city as they were originally conceived: an elegant park connected to St Mark’s square by a drawbridge and a cafe in the Selva building, the former APT premises. This operation, costing almost four million euros, will restore one of the city’s historic places in a serious state of abandon, as the Associazione Piazza San Marco had also noted several times. The agreement to improve the area between the city council, the Fondazione Venice Gardens, the State Property Agency, the Superintendency and the Prefecture was signed on 23 December.
