THE HARLEM SHAKE TAKES OFF IN ST MARK’S

The gathering is timed for 4.30 pm on Saturday 30 March in the Square and news of it is being circulated on various social networks, but in particular the call has been made by a group of young people on Facebook. A call for entertainment and not to cause damage or acts of vandalism as happened a few days ago in Piazza Ferretto, Mestre. The Harlem Shake is a dance started in Harlem in 1981 that became popular in 2001 thanks to a video of the song ‘Let’s get it’ by G. Dep. It is now the ‘latest thing’ going wild on the internet and being staged by various actors, singers and even sports teams. But its greatest expression is when young people gather in a place, almost always a square, and improvise the dance. Now it is the turn of St Mark’s Square. A video of the dance:
