THE MAYOR LUIGI BRUGNARO ESPOUSES THE SAN MARCO PASS PROJECT

The mayor Brugnaro (in photo) publically declared for the first time at the ‘Millecittà’ international conference, held yesterday at the Doge’s Palace as noted in a previous news item, the need to regulate access to some parts of the city and at some times of the year. Speaking to the mayors of some important European cities, which are also in some cases faced with the problem of ‘mass tourism’, Brugnaro speculated on the experimental regulation of tourist flows in the monumental part of St Mark’s Square by means of the appropriate technology and ad hoc legal references. The project that is most closely espoused to the mayor’s idea is the San Marco Pass proposed by the Comitato Turismo Sostenibile and by Marco Scurati. This project, presented in previous news items, would be able to feasibly and legally limit day-tourists’ access to the Square. Scurati says that the ‘times are ripe for this decision’, recalling that the minister Dario Franceschini has also declared himself a possibilist for this kind of action in the St Mark’s area.
