THE VENICE SOPRINTENDENZA STUDIES THE EFFECTS OF MASS TOURISM ON THE HISTORIC MONUMENTS

Tourism in Venice has been discussed for some time, not so much to demonise this important resource for the city, but to launch specific policies for the sector to regulate flows, put a brake on mass tourism and at the same time qualitatively improve the tourist presence in the city. One negative aspect of mass tourism is that of endangering the world heritage historical and monumental properties in Venice and the St Mark’s area, which attract millions of visitors. The lates news is that the Venice Soprintendenza has launched a study into the impact of tourist flows on the artistic and cultural monuments in Venice. A very important, wide ranging study that, as soon as it is made public, may be useful for analysing the situation and finding suitable answers to an extremely topical problem, that of protecting the historic and architectural splendours.
