The association’s general meeting took place on Friday 7 March

The Annual General Meeting of the Associazione Piazza San Marco took place on Friday 7 March at the Luna Hotel Baglioni at 5 pm. This is an important appointment for all members and friends of the association. Apart from discussion on the 2013 financial balance and the budget for 2014, the president of the association, Alberto Nardi (in the photo during a previous press conference), spoke on the association’s various activities. He recalled the various actions that have been marked by a serious and propositional confrontation with the city council, such as compliance of the advertising hoardings in the square to the regulations in force, upgrading of the public spaces, the need to create suitable public services and the fight against unauthorised trading. The big projects that distinguish the association were then looked at, such as the ‘San Marco Guardians’ project, which has had a positive impact on the safeguarding and management of St Mark’s Square and the ‘Dossier Acqua Alta’ and relative serious problems related to the increase in medium-low tides in St Mark’s Square. In the case of the ‘San Marco Guardians’, Nardi specified that new financing for the project in 2014 is not guaranteed and he must therefore meet the new management of Costa Crociere to discuss this. Regarding the Dossier, it will soon be distributed to bring to national and international attention the serious repercussions that the high tide phenomenon has on the square’s monumental heritage with relative negative effects of a socio-economic nature. It was then recalled that the association is involved in organising and promoting projects that see the square as a meeting place and theatre of events that respect the square itself, its monuments and its history. In this context, the association is directly involved in organising the ‘Ombra de vin’ on 25 April and in contributing with its ideas to improving the Carnival, currently degraded and the centre of much controversy. The meeting ended at about 6.30.
